*FULLY BOOKED PRIVATE TOUR*

About Eat Sleep Breathe Travel Group Trips: I started running ESBT Group Trips with the intent of offering fun, adventurous trips to various destinations around the world to readers and followers. The goal is to take the stress out of travel and to connect with like-minded people while exploring and learning.

As such, ESBT group trips tend to be busy itineraries that aim to provide the best value for your money. This might mean things like longer drive days, lots of walking, or back-to-back activities with limited free time. We also may go ‘off-grid’ at times and have little, or no, internet access. These are travel adventures, not laid-back vacations. Please always read through the itinerary to understand the plans, schedule, and level of activity involved. I also strongly recommend that you to do your own destination research to check things like climate and weather to ensure it is something you are comfortable with.

In addition, ESBT group trips are meant to be inclusive, safe spaces where everyone is welcome. In joining these tours, you are agreeing to continue to promote this theme and to treat all other travellers with kindness and respect. Along these lines, it is up to you to ensure that you are healthy enough to join. Rooms and spaces are often shared so I ask you to be considerate of your fellow travellers and seek medical attention ahead of time if you are unwell.

If you have any concerns or questions about the itinerary or destination based on your personal needs, please reach out to me.

ESBT Gems of Jordan with Indi-Hannah Jones

Jordan was one of my top destinations. It was actually my 50th country and I can’t tell you how amazing it was to stand in front of the treasury of Petra- the place that inspired me to travel after first watching Indiana Jones as a child. I loved my short but incredible time in the country and I’m ready to go back again.

**Please note this is a pre-booked private tour and not available to the public. Information is here for attending guests and so future group trip participants can see examples of my itineraries**

Dates

This trip will run from April 12-20th, 2025. We start and end in Amman. Airport transfers included for those who come day of, or come early and get hotel via Intrepid.

About This Trip

Jordan is located In the Middle East and while we are travelling in the spring, it can still be very hot. Especially in the desert and in the south. Our itinerary includes all air-conditioned vehicles and water activities in some stops, however, if you are someone who really struggles with the heat this might not be the best trip for you.

The itinerary does involve a lot of walking and hiking, especially in Petra. There are no vehicles and I will not allow group members to use the donkeys and horses to get around Petra. If you want to visit Petra be ready to walk. It is about 1.5km from the entrance through the Siq to the treasury. From there, there are numerous other hikes and trails and places to explore. You can go as far as you wish but again, you will be using your own feet.

There is a good amount of travel in this itinerary to see the highlights of the country so expect some longer drive days. Some of the roads- especially the desert jeep safari, can be quite rough and bumpy. If you have back or neck problems, this might not be the best itinerary for you.

Itinerary

Day 1: Amman

Welcome to Amman! Upon arrival to Queen Alia International Airport, you will be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel.

Your welcome meeting will be at 6pm with your guide. Enjoy afterwards a welcome dinner. For those who come early there is an optional food tour. More details in cost section.

Included activities:

  • Arrival transfer
  • Welcome Dinner Accommodation

Day 2: Amman

After breakfast today, you will enjoy a city tour in Amman, you will visit Citadel, Roman Theatre, King Abdullah Mosque, downtown, and nally pay a visit to the market.

Included Activities:

●  The Citadel

●  Roman Theatre

●  King Abdullah Mosque

●  Downtown Market Visit

Day 3: Wadi Rum

After breakfast today, journey down the Desert Highway to the spellbinding Wadi Rum, a landscape of rugged sandstone mountains standing tall among an ochre desert.

Meet your Bedouin hosts on arrival followed by free time for lunch, before heading into this desolate, romantic area. Transport into the Rum is by way of jeeps operated by the local Bedouin community, part of an initiative by the Jordanian Government to bring much-needed income into this region. Visit several of Wadi Rum’s distinctive rock formations and soak in the vast silence and spectacular desert landscapes.

The Bedouins live in scattered camps throughout the area and you’ll enjoy an evening under the stars at one of these sites.

Included Activities:

  • Wadi Rum – Desert Jeep Tour

Day 4: Aqaba

Enjoy a spectacular sunrise at your desert camp, perhaps checking out a few more of the local Wadi Rum sites or taking a scenic walk before you leave.

Depart Wadi Rum mid-morning for the city of Aqaba on the Red Sea. Check into your hotel on arrival and head out for a brief orientation of the town with your leader – the small Ottoman Mamluk Fort, dating from the 14th century and from where Lawrence of Arabia rode to Cairo, is worth a look – otherwise, most of the fun is to be found in the water. With great visibility and abundant marine life, this is an incredible spot for snorkeling, and the warm waters play host to clownsh, angelsh, sea turtles and coral formations.

You will have a snorkeling trip in Aqaba.

Included Activities:

  • Snorkeling Trip Accommodation

Day 5: Petra

This morning, you will have a walking tour in Aqaba.

Then drive to Petra, the fabled city of Petra. Dating back to the sixth century BC, Petra is considered the crown jewel of Jordan, featuring an impressive series of tombs and dwellings carved directly into the rock. The site remained unknown to the wider world until 1812 when it was visited by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. In 1985, Petra was designated a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site, and simply put, is one of the world’s most incredible ancient sites.

You will visit Little Petra on the way to Petra.
On arrival, settle into your hotel to relax for a while.
Then you will have dinner with local family in Um Sayhoun. You will enjoy the Jordanian meal with local family.

Included Activities:

●  Little Petra

●  Um Sahyoun Dinner

Day 6: Petra

Breakfast at your hotel, Petra is justiably on most people’s list of ‘must-visit’ places. The iconic Petra view – the Treasury’s glorious facade, glimpsed from the narrow cleft known as the Siq – is arguably the single most striking sight of the entire region. The Siq leads through the rock and is sometimes only a few metres wide, with walls soaring up to 180 metres on either side. Join your guide and explore the old Roman road, amphitheatre and several old tombs, before enjoying free time to experience Petra at your own pace. Maybe climb up to the Monastery, carved from a mountain summit, where you’ll nd magnicent views of the entire site.

Included Activities:

  • Petra Visit

Day 7 :Dead Sea

For another glimpse at Petra, rise very early for an unguided morning visit, if you wish.

Then drive to the King’s Highway to the historic crusader castle of Kerak, which stands on a cliff overlooking Wadi Karak and the Dead Sea in the distance (approximately 2.5 hours). You’ll have time to explore the ruins and discover the legends of centuries-old battles. Pack your swim gear as next you can wash off the dust in the Dead Sea – the lowest point on Earth (420 meters below sea level). This super-salty lake is a perfect place to spend some time relaxing and oat your worries away.

Included Activities:

●  Kerak Castle

●  Dead Sea – visit and swim

Day 8: Jerash/Amman

Breakfast at your hotel, depart from Dead Sea. Take a drive to Jerash, once one of the grandest ancient Roman cities in the world and now home to some of the best Greco-Roman ruins around. Jerash has a striking collection of archways, theatres, baths, public buildings and colonnaded streets, and is a beautiful place to spend a morning exploring.

Spend some time relaxing here before returning to Amman for the evening farewell dinner.

Included Activities:

●  Jerash – Roman Ruins

●  Amman – Farewell Dinner

Day 9: Amman-Departure

Your trip comes to an end today. Check-out time is usually around 12pm. Luggage storage available if you have a late departing flight. Departure transfer is included.

Additional Tips

  • Jordan is a predominately Muslim country. While not as strict and conservative as other countries, please still be mindful of the local culture and behave and dress appropriately. I have a blog post with a packing guide on what to wear in Jordan found here.
  • Drinking is allowed in Jordan in certain establishments (bars, hotels, restaurants etc.) That being said not all establishments serve alcohol. It is highly frowned upon to be publicly drunk. While everyone is welcome to drink alcohol, it is expected that you will behave appropriately.
  • Weekends in Jordan are Friday/ Saturday rather than Saturday/Sunday. This may impact any plans you have if you want to arrive early.
  • Tipping is common in Jordan in hospitality.
  • Bartering in markets and souks is expected.
  • Credit cards are expected in bigger restaurants and hotels but its best to have cash on hand. The local currency is the Jordanian Dinar.
