I was exhausted.
After 42 hours of travel from Ottawa to Bali I just wanted a shower and somewhere comfortable to sit, or preferably lay down. I stared out the window of the car as we left the bustling traffic of Seminyak behind and turned down a narrow street. The noise and activity suddenly ceased as we pulled up the large door that would be the entry way of my home for the next few days. I thanked and paid the driver, grabbed my luggage and entered a little slice of heaven; Villa Lisa.
Upon entering the ground my eyes didn’t know where to focus. On the little fish in the pond under the bridge I was standing on? At the incredibly inviting pool? The open air building with a full kitchen and huge relaxation area? Or the little cottage in the back corner that looked like it belonged in a tropical jungle? My exhaustion seemed to vanish as I took in the property that would by our home the next three days. Exhaustion traded for excitement, I dropped my bags on the grass so I could explore.
Villa Lisa is a modern villa with three bedrooms, a large kitchen and dining area and a spacious living area, and a gorgeous pool with a sundeck and lounge chairs located in the garden. It’s a small piece of paradise tucked away from the hustle and bustle and I couldn’t believe I got to call it home with two of my friends for the next three days.
I claimed the jungle-like cottage for myself. A large bed took up the centre of the room with plenty of shelving and bedside tables for me to store my belongings. There was also a large ensuite bathroom included a shower with a rain head and another cupboard should I need more room for my things. The two bedrooms in the villa were equally beautiful. Large and spacious with king sized beds and en-suite bathrooms. Again, plenty of room to unpack and make yourself feel at home. There was also a large daybed on the top floor overlooking the villa grounds, perfect for a lazy afternoon nap in the open air, or for watching the sun set.
The bottom floor was all open concept. It was sheltered from the sun and large fans kept us cool, and we absolutely loved it. A kitchen area with a fridge and plenty of counter space made it easy to cook or prepare meals. There is a large dining table for eating, and for relaxing; a massive, comfortable couch in front of a large wide screen TV. There’s even drawer full of movies.
Of course, given the heat we spent much of our time pool side. The pool was perfect size that we could float and play without being too crowded and the lounge chairs made for relaxing places to enjoy the warm bali sun. We spent every morning and evening after exploring in the pool; the perfect way to cool down after a hot day.
As if things couldn’t get any better, the resort also had a small staff of two to help out. Two lovely women came each day to check on things. One woman took on the gardening duties while another, Ketut, took care of the guests. Ketut came each morning (except Sunday- her day off) to make a freshly prepared breakfast for the three of us with eggs, fruit, toast, coffee and tea. We felt absolutely spoiled by her and she always made sure we had everything we needed including her contact information before she left.
Despite the lack of noise, Villa Lisa is actually in quite a central area. Just around the corner is the well known Jalan Oberoi, affectionately nicknamed Eat Street for all the warung and restaurant choices. A little further, but only a 15 minute walk away is the Double Six beach filled with surf schools, lounge chairs, and beach bars. It was hard to believe that I was so close to the action when we heard nearly none of the traffic while on the property. It was like being in our own little world, and we loved every minute of it.
So if you are headed to Bali and looking for a special place to relax and call home for a couple of days; check out Villa Lisa. For more on Seminyak check out this post.
Huge thanks to Bali Villas and Villa Lisa for hosting us!
