ESBT Antarctica January 2025
Adorable Gentoo penguins shuffling along their penguin highways.
A pudgy baby elephant seal, poking around our emergency supplies.
A massive humpback whale, popping up beside us to eye our zodiac.
Luminous blue icebergs sculpted by nature to look like ice castles.
And glaciers too big for my brain to actually comprehend their size.
This is just a taste of what I saw in Antarctica in January 2023. It was so incredibly magical that I’m going back again for an even bigger trip.
And I’m inviting you to come with me!
Trip & Itinerary
I’m excited to announce that I will once again be partnering with Intrepid Travel to host an ESBT group trip to Antarctica in January of 2025. This time, we’re going bigger. I’ve signed on to a 23-day voyage aboard the Ocean Endeavor that, in addition to the Antarctic Circle, will take us to the Falklands and South Georgia (home of the king and macaroni penguins!)
Dates: Sunday, January 5th, 2025- Monday, January 27th, 2025.
Note: January is the warmest month in Antarctica and a great time to spot whales, seals, and penguins including penguin chicks!
Full itinerary and inclusions can be found here.
The ship is the Ocean Endeavor which has a maximum of 200 passengers. It is a proper cruise ship with a gym, library, spa, yoga, saunas, heated pool (and a doctor) etc. You can learn more about the ship and the available cabin options here.
There are add-ons like kayaking and a photography workshop. All are at an additional cost but they are available to you if you want. It’s advised that you book onto these extras as soon as possible if you want to join as there are limited spaces. You can learn more about the options by following these links:
- Polar Kayaking ($1730.00 CAD- book in advance)
- Camping on Antarctica ($530.00 CAD-book in advance)
- Polar Photography Workshop ($1730.00 CAD- book in advance)
On board you can also sign up for:
Please note that photography and kayaking overlap and cannot be booked together. If you would like to book, contact the voyages crew in the provided email below.
And yes, there is an opportunity for everyone to do the polar plunge (it’s included!) so bring your swimsuit.
Cost
Pricing will depend on your cabin choice. Note that all prices are in Canadian dollars and are subject to change outside of the cabin hold period. Pricing is dictated by Intrepid Travel, not me and can change at any time.
The cost for the trip includes pretty much everything for the duration of the trip itself: transportation, accommodation, all meals, zodiac rides and shore landings (as mentioned above you can add on activities like kayaking and camping for an additional cost). You also get to borrow some cold-weather gear including proper muck boots and a waterproof coat. You will get an insulated puffer jacket to keep. Flights are NOT included in these costs. You are responsible for booking your own flight.
As this is a huge Antarctica journey, prices start at $25, 270 CAD per person and go up according to the cabin type. You can find all the options here. Keep in mind that this is the only departure in the season of this particular tour. It is expected to sell out.
Solo travellers who don’t book single supplements will be placed in a room with a fellow solo traveller of the same sex. If you are travelling with a partner or friend who is booking separately but want to room together, please mention that at the time of booking. Details for all the cabin options can be found here.
Deposit and Payment
The required deposit is typically 20% of your cabin cost but right now Intrepid is accepting a flat rate of $2600 CAD no matter the size of your cabin. Please note that deposits are non-refundable and is required to ensure your booking.
Full payment is due 95 Days before the departure date. You can pay as you can payment-plan-style on your own time or pay in lump sum as long as the total amount is paid at this point.
Find full details of cancellation the policy here. This includes information on if Intrepid has to cancel the trip due to a Force Majeure Event.
Intrepid Travel will be handling deposits and final payments for this trip.
